Winter Weather updates for Redding and Igo

Story updated Monday, February 25 at 11:16 a.m.

Near-record setting snowfall descended on much of the North State this week, including at the Veterans Home in Redding and the Northern California Veterans Cemetery (NCVC) in Igo.

Parts of Redding and surrounding communities received 10 to 14 inches of snow Tuesday night, the National Weather Service reported. The Redding Record Searchlight noted the 14 inches is the most snow the city received since Dec. 23, 1968 when a storm dumped 16 inches on the area.

NCVC in Igo snowThe snow created a power outage at the NCVC  and the cemetery remained closed through President’s Day weekend. Technicians helped restore power last Wednesday and the cemetery re-opened Thursday. All interment appointments missed during the closure have been rescheduled.

The Veterans Home of California – Redding returned to normal operations and full staffing following brief outages caused by the weather. The landline phone system was affected by the weather, but full service has been restored.

During the wet weather, many Redding Home residents took part in a Valentine’s Day social as they celebrated with staff inside the dining hall Thursday afternoon. Take a look at the photos below to see how they celebrated.
